Pea Soup

  • Dried Whole Green Peas
    1lb
  • Ham Bone(leftover with a little ham on it)
    1bone
  • Onion(peeled)
    1small
  • Crisco Shortening
    2tbsp

Traditional green pea soup made with a leftover ham bone.

Instructions

  1. The Night Before: Place peas in a deep bowl, cover in water and soak overnight.
  2. The Morning Of: Drain and rinse the peas.
  3. Place ham bone in a deep large pot.
  4. Add peas and enough water to cover peas.
  5. On high heat bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce to medium high heat.
  7. Add onion in whole.
  8. Add Crisco and salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Continue boiling, adding water if it starts to dry up.
  10. Boil until peas are tender, about 30 to 40 minutes.
