A classic southern red velvet cake with buttermilk.
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large glass bowl cream butter and sugar.
- Add eggs, cocoa and vanilla. Stir well.
- In another glass bowl combine buttermilk, red food coloring and salt.
- Mix alternately with flour. Stir well after each addition.
- In a measuring cup combine vinegar and baking soda. Stir to mix.
- Fold mixture into batter. Combine thoroughly.
- Pour batter into 2-9 inch or heart shaped greased and floured cake pans.
- Bake for 25 to 35 minutes.
- Cool thoroughly before frosting.
